02 / ONE ROOM, CONSIDERED

A fresh
perspective.

$10,000 design fee per room

Start with one clearly defined room. For an open-plan living and dining area, multiple rooms, a kitchen or bathroom renovation, or changes to walls and building systems, ask the studio to confirm the scope before purchasing.

03 / FROM FIRST IDEA TO FINISHED ROOM

A clear plan.
Every step.

  1. 01

    Choose your room.

Decide which room you want to work on and what should feel different. Review the scope above, then select your room and purchase the service. Ask the studio first if your project crosses rooms or involves construction.

  2. 02

    Prepare your room brief.

Gather measurements, a labeled sketch, photographs, a short walkthrough and inspiration using the guides below. List the pieces you want to keep and set a furniture and decor budget separate from the design fee.

  3. 03

    Send your details.

Use the virtual design inquiry form. Include your order number, chosen room, project address and a viewable link to your room folder. The studio reviews your materials and confirms any missing information, the scope and scheduling before design begins.

  4. 04

    Meet the studio remotely.

In your discovery session, discuss how you live, your priorities, the pieces that stay and your desired mood. Keep your sketch and photos nearby. Confirm your budget, responsibilities and presentation timing together.

  5. 05

    See the direction.

The studio develops and presents your concept, furniture layout, color and material direction, and itemized furniture and lighting selections. Review how the pieces work together and how the plan supports your daily life.

  6. 06

Share one clear round of feedback.

Review the presentation with everyone making decisions. Combine your comments into one list, identifying what you love, what needs adjustment and why. One consolidated round of refinements is included.

  7. 07

    Receive your final room plan.

Your digital handover brings together the refined concept, furniture layout, color and material direction, and itemized selections. Review any outstanding fit questions with the studio before placing orders.

  8. 08

    Bring it home.

Coordinate purchasing, deliveries and installation locally unless separate services have been agreed. Recheck dimensions, delivery access, current prices, availability and lead times before ordering. Have local trades verify and carry out any technical installation. Once the room is in place, share photographs with the studio.

04 / YOUR ROOM, MEASURED

A pencil.
A tape.
A little care.

You do not need a polished drawing. A legible, accurate sketch is what matters. Use a tape measure or laser measure, paper and a pencil; a second person makes long measurements easier.

Use one unit throughout: inches, or centimeters. Label it clearly. Record inches to the nearest ¼ inch where practical and measure twice. Do not estimate from photographs or round up to whole feet.

Example room measurement sketchExample only: a rectangular room, wall A at the top, B right, C bottom, D left. A window is on wall A and an inward-opening door is at the bottom left. Measure each wall and the separate distances to every opening.Full wall lengthWindowWALL AWALL BWALL CWALL DCorner to openingHeight: see elevationEXAMPLE ONLY · NOT TO SCALE Required ceiling height measurementSide elevation. Measure vertically from finished floor to finished ceiling. Record high and low heights for sloped ceilings and clear height beneath beams.CEILING HEIGHT · REQUIREDFinished ceilingHeight: ______Finished floorSIDE VIEW · EXAMPLE ONLY · NOT TO SCALE

Include ceiling height with every room sketch. Measure finished floor to finished ceiling. For a slope or vault, label the low point, high point and the location of each.

1. Draw and label the outline

Sketch the room as seen from above. Label the walls A, B, C and D clockwise; add more letters for extra walls. Include alcoves, angled walls, columns, fireplaces and fixed cabinetry. Mark where the room connects to adjoining spaces.

2. Measure walls and ceiling

Measure each full wall along the finished wall surface, corner to corner. Record the overall room length and width, then every recess or projection separately. Ceiling height is required. Measure vertically from the finished floor to the finished ceiling and write the height on your sketch. For sloped or vaulted ceilings, record both the lowest and highest points and mark their locations. Measure the clear height beneath beams and bulkheads separately.

3. Locate doors and windows

For each opening, record the distance from the nearest corner to the outside of its trim, its outside-trim width, and the remaining distance to the next corner. Also record the clear opening width and height. For windows, add floor-to-sill height and floor-to-top-of-trim height. For doors, mark the hinge side and swing direction. Label any measurements taken without trim.

4. Mark fixed features and utilities

Locate fireplaces, radiators, vents, outlets, switches, wall lights, ceiling fixtures and TV connections on the sketch. Measure their distance from a labeled corner and height above the floor where relevant. Add the width, height and depth of fixed elements.

5. Measure furniture and delivery access

For every piece you want to keep, record width × depth × height and take a clear photo. Note clear doorway widths and heights, hallway widths, stair turns and elevator dimensions along the delivery route. These measurements help identify access questions before purchasing.

6. Check, label and photograph

Check that the wall segments and opening widths add up to the full wall length. Re-measure discrepancies rather than guessing. Write your name, room, date and units on the sketch. Photograph it straight-on in good light, or scan it. Mark anything uncertain for the studio to review.

Room measurements support the design layout. Custom fabrication and installation measurements must be verified on site by the responsible vendor or installer.

05 / YOUR ROOM FOLDER

Let us see
the whole picture.

Photograph the space.

Use daylight and your phone’s normal 1× lens. Take one straight-on image of each wall, then one from each corner. Keep the camera level; avoid filters and panorama distortion. Add close-ups of fixed features, finishes and furniture that stays.

Record a slow walkthrough from the entrance, showing the floor, ceiling and connections to other rooms.

Tell us how you live.

List who uses the room, what works, what does not and your priorities. Include pets, children, storage needs and any mobility or accessibility requirements. Share 5–10 inspiration images and a short note about what you like in each.

Include your furniture and decor budget, desired timing and any deadlines.

Organize and share.

Name your folder “Your name – Room.” Include your labeled sketch with ceiling height, photos named by wall, walkthrough, keep-list and inspiration. Use a viewable Google Drive, Dropbox or similar folder link; check its permissions before sending.

Add the link and order number in the inquiry form. You can inquire before purchasing if you need help confirming fit.

Send your room details

A FEW USEFUL DETAILS

Before we begin.

Does one open-plan space count as one room?

Connected living, dining and kitchen zones may need separate room scopes. Send a sketch and photos so the studio can confirm the right service before you purchase.

Will I work directly with Cara?

Virtual room design is delivered by the Cara Woodhouse Interiors studio. If you want a dedicated one-to-one advice session with Cara, use the Intro booking option.

How long will the process take?

The studio confirms scheduling after reviewing your complete room brief and scope. Design timing and furniture delivery lead times are separate; share important deadlines at the start.

Are purchasing and installation included?

The design fee covers the listed design deliverables. Purchasing, receiving, installation, site visits and contractor coordination are separate unless included in an agreed proposal. Product prices and availability can change.

What if I need construction or custom work?

Ask the studio to review the project before purchasing a room service. Structural changes, technical drawings, custom millwork and on-site coordination need an individually agreed scope and appropriate local professionals.
